  • Discuss game choice

  • Fill out a game design document

  • Complete requirements modeling

  • Finish and share opinions on “The Kitten and the Robot

Summary of the week:

This week served as a way to further our discussions from last week. Our discussions on the book “The Kitten and the Robot” and the game we chose to make in particular. In regards to what the group said about the book. The group said that the book had a few kinks but could be a good children’s book. In regards to the choice of game. The group settled on option A which was a resource-management strategy game (e.g., Diner Dash). Once that was decided, talks about the game’s gameplay loop began. The idea that was the most popular amongst the group was splitting the game into two sections. A night section where the player would control the kitten and earn coins by solving STEM-related puzzles and a day section where the player would control the robot and either purchase upgrades for the animal refuge or help animals at the refuge get adopted. The game would continue until the story mode was completed or go on forever if the player chose the endless mode.
After the group finished sharing ideas, they went about completing a requirements matrix. After completing the matrix, each group member was told to draft puzzle ideas and ponder the gameplay loop outside the meeting.

Goals for next week:

  • Draft puzzle ideas for discussion

  • Ponder gameplay loop
